Tung Ngoen Resort is situated about 9 km south-east of Mukdahan, the capital of Mukdahan province, one of the 76 provinces of Thailand and belongs to the northeastern part of Thailand (Esarn).
Mukdahan is famous for the Indochina Market along the river Mekong, which offers a variety of goods at affordable prices. When you are hungry after shopping, you can visit one of the many restaurants at the river front serving Thai and Isan specialities.
Of course there are lot of Thai temples in and around Mukdahan like Wat Sri Mongkol, the newly-built Wat Phou Manorom and about 50 km north the renowned Wat That Phanom. Another attraction is the Ho Kaeo Mukdahan or Mukdahan Tower, an observation tower 65.5 metres in height, constructed in 1996 to honor the 50th anniversary of the king's accession to the throne.
The Phu Pha Thoep National Park with its unusual rock formations and a cave with ancient hand paintings is just a short drive from the the resort. You can even rent a bike and explore the area around Tung Ngoen Resort, there are plenty of small roads with almost no traffic. And from Mukdahan to Phu Pha Thoep National Park is a special bicycle track along the road to Dontan.
Tourists, who intend to visit Laos, can cross the Mekong over the second Thai-Laos Friedship bridge, which connects Mukdahan and Savannakhet, which was completed in December 2006. Visa on arrival are available for the foreigners.
